About the Otopathology Society

Established in 1973 in honor of Harold F. Schuknecht, MD, former Chair of Otolaryngology at Harvard Medical School, the International Otopathology Society was originally created as an outlet for Dr. Schuknecht’s former research fellows to share interesting cases and observations related to the pathology of the inner ear. In doing so, the Society began hosting a scientific meeting every three years, which continues today. The meeting invites members from around the globe to Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston, Massachusetts, for a three-day conference that’s dedicated to the study of otopathology.

Over the years, the Society and its meeting have grown, now attracting not only former research fellows of Dr. Schuknecht and the Otopathology Laboratory, but also those with an interest in human otopathology—this includes both physicians and scientists. The Society now has more than 150 members from more than 35 countries, and continues to grow each year.
